Overview

Tsum was opened for trekkers only in 2008. Unlike the Annapurna, Everest and Langtang regions, the number and standard of lodges in Tsum is quite low. The trek accommodation offer basic Nepali home stay in Tsum valley and tea houses accommodation in around Manaslu. This trek is about more than being reasonably fit and having a positive attitude. It is about proper acclimatization, and having the skills and someone else along to check on each other if you are succumbing to AMS related illnesses. Our guides have a good knowledge of AMS related illnesses and acclimating properly. Although independent and tea house trekking is possible in Manaslu and Tsum Valley, we recommend that you choose a tented trek and some responsible guides to help you explore this relatively unexplored land. Both Manaslu and Tsum Valley are absolutely amazing if you decide to go there. These places are two of the most amazing places you can go on this planet. A trail that climbs through the village of Philim before heading up a ridge leading up the Ganesh Himal Base Camp, brings us to the Tsum Valley. The major highlights of this region include Piren Phu ( also known as the pigeon cave), the Rachen Nunnery and the villages of Chumling, Chhule, Chhekampar and Nyile. A pilgrimage route also runs through the valley that has been visited by Bith Milarepa and Guru Rinpoche. The people of Tsum, numbering roughly 4000 are mostly Tibetan and much of their trade is with the Kyirong region of Tibet. Tsum offers the best views of the Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himal, Baudha Himal and Himalchuli.
